Suspect in violent multi-city crime spree identified, to appear in court today

The suspect accused in a violent crime spree earlier this week is set to make his first court appearance later this morning.

30-year-old Johnathan Leblanc was taken into custody by Vancouver Police late Sunday night after allegedly going on a six-hour rampage through Richmond, Vancouver and Surrey.

The incidents are also fueling renewed discussion around the potential for regional policing, with several agencies conducting separate investigations.

Leblanc is facing charges of robbery and assault with a weapon in relation to the alleged incident that took place at the TD Bank on Sunday evening.

Police say their investigation into the Victoria Drive crash; the attempted car jacking also on Victoria Drive; and the carjacking at the Esso gas station is ongoing.

Leblanc will appear in court today at 9:30 a.m.
