Toronto police are investigating after a teenage boy was shot dead overnight in the city’s east end.
Police said they responded to reports of a shooting at a home around 1:02 a.m. Monday at Cataraqui Crescent and Warden Avenue, just south of St. Clair Avenue East in Scarborough.
Police said a 16-year-old boy was shot inside a home, and paramedics rushed him to hospital with life-threatening injuries. He later died in hospital.
Police said a suspect fled the scene shortly after, but no description was made available.
The victim was later identified as Jamal Abdinasir of Toronto.
Global News has learned Abdinasir was a Grade 10 student at L’École Secondaire Catholique Père Philippe Lamarche, where flags were at half-mast Monday.
In a letter to parents, the school said its crisis management team will be available to meet with students and staff amid “these difficult circumstances.”
An investigation is ongoing.
