Shelter in place in Delhi, Ont. lifted after man arrested

Police have lifted a hold and secure for residents on Gibralter Street in Delhi, Ont., that had been in place while officers took an armed man into custody.

At around 8 a.m., OPP in Norfolk County issued a tweet asking people living on the street to also shelter in place and to keep their children home from school.

Police also asked people to avoid the area around Gibralter and Crossier streets as well as Gibralter and Ewell streets.

About 90 minutes later, they issued a second tweet which said that the hold and secure had been lifted while providing some details as to what had transpired.

“Shortly after 7 a.m., members of the Ontario Provincial Police Norfolk County Detachment responded to a report of an individual armed with a weapon at an address on Gibraltar Street in Delhi, Norfolk County,” Const. Andrew Gamble said.

“What I can tell you is that the individual was taken into custody without incident.”

He went on to thanks residents for their patience regarding the incident.

“Anyone who resides on Gibraltar Street and was asked to stay inside the residence for a period of time. Thank you so much for your patience and your cooperation,” he said.

Delhi is located about 40 km southwest of Brantford.
