One person taken to hospital following house explosion in northeast Calgary

An explosion caused significant damage to a home in northeast Calgary on Saturday night.

EMS confirmed to Global News that one adult was taken to hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries around 11:30 p.m.

Neighbours told Global News they heard a large explosion around 11 p.m. and went outside to see the garage doors blown off the home where it happened.

A spokesperson for the Calgary Fire Department said 911 calls began coming in around 11:15 p.m. reporting an explosion.

The spokesperson said the first crews arrived to find the garage doors had been blown right off.

The Calgary Fire Department said the garage had been blown from it’s foundation, although there was no fire inside.

City engineers have been notified, as a precaution, to make sure the home is stable for occupants.

The cause of the explosion is still under investigation.

The Calgary Fire Department said there was one other person inside the home at the time of the explosion but they were not injured.
