Police initially reported the incident as a stabbing that happened just after 6 a.m. near The Queensway and Kipling Avenue.

“An individual entered the lobby from within the building and reported that they were involved in an altercation,” said Duty Inspector Jeff Bangild.

A woman was found injured inside of a condo unit and paramedics performed life-saving measures, Bangild said. Despite being initially reported as a stabbing, Bangild did not reveal the nature of her injuries and said it is under investigation.

Bangild said the woman died from her injuries at the scene and did not make it to hospital.

A suspect, a man in his 50s, is in police custody but was taken to hospital for minor injuries, Bangild said.

Bangild said it appears to be an isolated incident and that the victim and the suspect do know each other, although he did not confirm their relationship. The homicide unit has been called in to investigate.
