Residents in a northern Manitoba community are keeping their doors locked Tuesday morning as RCMP continue the search for a man they consider to be armed and dangerous.
Police have urged residents of Bloodvein, 3.5 hours north of Winnipeg, to stay indoors after reports of a man firing a gun in the community just after 1 a.m. Tuesday.
RCMP say no one has been injured, but they’re asking anyone who spots the suspect to call them immediately. As of Tuesday afternoon., the suspect — who police have identified as 31-year-old Byron Duck — remains at large.
Sgt. Paul Manaigre told 680 CJOB that Duck is known to police in the community.
“(He) appears to be just shooting in the air and fleeing when officers arrive,” Manaigre said.
“We do have our emergency response team and our police dog services have attended to the community.”
Manaigre said late Tuesday morning that police have no evidence he has left the community, and believe he remains in hiding somewhere in Bloodvein.
Duck is described as 5’9″ and 150 lbs with black hair and brown eyes, and is currently wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for violating release conditions.
Anyone who sees him is being urged not to approach and to call Bloodvein RCMP at 204-395-2020, or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.
