Manitoba’s top police watchdog, the Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU), says it is investigating an allegation of falsifying a document that occurred after an officer served an appearance notice in the Manitoba West District.

On Monday, the RCMP notified the IIU of an incident from early September. The notification stated two RCMP officers arrested a suspect based on a warrant.

RCMP says one officer completed the arrest, executed the warrant and served an appearance notice. Shortly afterward, the officer went to the detachment to complete the service document and observed it had been completed and signed in their name by another officer.

The civilian director has determined it is in the public interest for the IIU to investigate.

The investigation is ongoing so no further details will be provided at this time.
