The BC Major Midget Hockey League is losing one of their prized coaches.
Misko Antisin, head coach of the Okanagan Rockets, has accepted a position with a team in Switzerland.
The Engleberg men’s second division in Switzerland has hired Antisin as head coach.
"It’s with really mixed emotions that I accept this job" said Antisin. "Obviously it’s never ideal to leave a team in mid season, but this was an opportunity that I just couldn’t say no to.”
Antisin played professional hockey in Switzerland for 18 years, but was born in BC. His time as a junior player included two years with the Kelowna Buckaroos in the early 80’s.
Okanagan Rockets assistant coach Brandon West will assume the job as head coach until the team names Antisin’s replacement.
“The Okanagan Rockets are going to be just fine with Brandon West at the helm,” says Antisin. “Brandon and I have been together for a long time and I’m confident that he is up to the challenge, I know the players are as well."
The Okanagan Rockets defeated the Thompson Blazers by scores of 5-1 and 5-3 this past weekend in Chase, BC. The junior team is now 6-4-0 on the season, good for 6th place, just 2 points behind both the South Island Thunderbirds, and the Valley West Hawks.
