Together Again: Duo of Local Blues Legends to play in Summerland! The Summerland Community Centre, 9710 Brown St., is honoured to have Rick “Poppa Dawg” Halisheff and Sherman “Tank” Doucette play a fundraising concert on Saturday, October 28, at 7 p.m. Rick has been a mainstay on the Western Canadian blues scene for over 25 years, making a name for himself based on his strong vocal and guitar abilities as well as being a seasoned songwriter. Full of passion, Rick’s performances are driven by the music and by sharing the stories of the songs themselves. Rick has shared the stage with numerous artists and has released CDs with his band, ‘Dogskin Suit,’ plus two solo albums. Over the years Rick has won two local ‘Honour in the Arts’ awards as well making it to the semi-finals of the 29th International Blues Challenge in 2013 with his band in Memphis. And this year, Rick won the Gonzo award for the Okanagan’s Best Blues Musician. Sherman “Tank” Doucette, is a harmonica player, vocalist and songwriter based in Kelowna. He has shared the stage with blues legends such as John Lee Hooker, Albert Collins, Sunnyland Slim, Pinetop Perkins, Jim Byrnes and Long John Baldry, has recorded several albums, and has toured extensively across Canada. Sherman grew up surrounded by music. His dad played guitar and banjo, his grandfather played harmonica and fiddle, and the rest of his family sang and danced along. “My grampa played French jigs, where they dance with their feet … I’d sit on his lap and he’d keep time with his feet. And the rhythm went right through me.” When Sherman picked up the harmonica, he worked hard to get that sought-after tone. But he didn’t want to play like everyone else, so he developed his unique style Sherman is a “Tank” full of energy, putting on an unforgettable show, mixing blues classics and original songs with the passion and conviction few can deliver. Together again, the two musicians have been playing to sold out audiences in the Valley. Tickets for this show are $20 and can be purchased at Artisans of the Okanagan, reserved via e-transfer c/o , and at the door.
