On December 17, 2021, 4:30-6:30pm Indigenous Vision for the North End (IVNE) and Merchants Corner are partnering to host “Lighting Up the Avenue” (LUTA). This will be a fun, festive, free community event for everyone! Families, youth and children are invited to explore Selkirk Avenue from in a COVID-safe event to support celebrate the holidays. There will be activities at various shops and organizations along Selkirk Avenue with crafting, Santa photos, food and hot chocolate, music performances, lights displays and more!

Lighting Up the Avenue will be held between North End Women’s Centre (382 Selkirk Ave) and Merchant’s Corner (541 Selkirk Ave) and includes:

• North End Women’s Centre, The Up Shoppe (382 Selkirk Ave) will be staying up later on December 17, from 4:00-7:00 PM for LUTA and will be having a Full Moon Ceremony.
• Sakihiwe Festival will be playing and projecting music outside in between the outside space of the Indigenous Family Centre (470 Selkirk Ave) and Ndinawe Youth Resource Centre (472 Selkirk Ave).
• NECRC will be hosting the hot chocolate station out of 509 Selkirk Ave.
• Urban Circle Training Centre will be hosting a photo station with Santa (519 Selkirk Ave).
• Mama Bear Clan will be doing their walk throughout LUTA and handing out kits made by them.
• Perfect Place Café will be open late for LUTA (541 Selkirk Ave).
• Merchants Corner (541 Selkirk Ave) will be hosting a crafting station in collaboration with ArtsJunktion (541 Selkirk Ave).
• Community Education Development Association will be hosting an activity at the Merchant’s Corner (541 Selkirk Ave).

Note that masks are required for participation (and proof of vaccination will be required to enter certain buildings).
