For Cello & Piano) – Robert Schumann Cello Sonata No. 1 in D Minor, Op. 109 – Gabriel Fauré Cello Sonata No. 2 in F major, Op. 123 – Camille Saint-Saëns Featuring: Victor Julien-Laferrière, cello Jonas Vitaud, piano Victor Julien-Laferrière was the 1st prize winner of the Queen Elisabeth Competition 2017 in Brussels and the Spring Prague International Competition in 2012. In 2018, He was awarded the Victoire de la Musique in France as “Best Instrumental Solo.” He’s gone on to be the guest of numerous recital and chamber music features around the world including Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Louisiana Museum in Copenhague, Tonhalle of Zurish, and Folles Journées Tokyo. In 2019, Julien-Laferrière released a new album in collaboration with the label, Alpha, with pianist Jonas Vitaud. Jonas Vitaud’s adaptable musicianship was acknowledged in the BBC music magazine as having “the technique to span the gamut of expressions, from wrathful heroism to tension-filled chiaroscuro.” As a student of Brigitee Enerer, Jean Koerner, and Christian Ivaldi, Jonas Vitaud obtained four 1st prizes (piano, chamber music, piano accompaniment, harmony) at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris as well as prizes at several international competitions (Lyon, the ARD-Musikwetteberb in Munich, Trieste, and the International Beethoven Piano Competition in Vienna). This concert is generously supported by Canada Council of the Arts and BC Gaming Grant. The Vancouver Chamber Music Society is the leading presenter in Western Canada of high-calibre chamber music featuring world-renowned chamber ensembles, and solo and recital artists. Their program, steeped in the rich tradition of classical music meets contemporary audiences in a familiar and straightforward way.
