There has been a tendency to ignore the final conferences that Merton gave in Alaska in the autumn of 1968 but these conferences sum up Merton’s time tried insights and wisdom on contemplation, community, public responsibility, ecumenism and interfaith dialogue. At this half day seminar, Ron Dart will focus on these perennial themes and their ongoing relevance and significance for our time and ethos. Co-sponsored by the Thomas Merton Society of Canada and Canadian Memorial United Church & Centre for Peace.
Ron Dart has taught in the Department of Political Science, Philosophy and Religious Studies at the University of the Fraser Valley in Abbotsford since 1990. He has contributed numerous articles, essays and book reviews to The Merton Annual, The Merton Seasonal, and Thomas Merton: Monk on the Edge, a collection of essays by Canadian Merton scholars. Ron serves on the Board of the Thomas Merton Society of Canada.
