Centaur Theatre’s 2018 Brave New Looks Selection, The Tashme Project: The Living Archives will be running from November 15th – 24th @ Centaur Theatre Award-winning play, The Tashme Project: The Living Archives, has been crafted from over 70 hours of interviews with 20 Nisei (second generation Japanese Canadians) and traces their history through childhood, WWII internment in BC, and post-war deportation. The Tashme Project: The Living Archives shows the trickle-effect on generations in a way we don’t often think about; traumas of cultural integration and negotiation of heritage are processes that carry on down the line, and do not become less intense or less traumatic with each generation. The Tashme Project establishes a deep emotional and spiritual connection with the idea of ancestry, encouraging inter-generational dialogue, and is an embodiment of Nisei character, language, spirit and story. There will be post show artist talks after each performance by creators and performers Julie Tamiko Manning and Matt Miwa.
