Cariwest is one of Edmonton’s most vibrant and beloved cultural festivals, celebrating the music, food, art, and Carnival traditions of the Caribbean. Established more than 40 years ago by the Western Carnival Development Association (WCDA), Cariwest was created to give Caribbean Canadians a platform to share their culture, heritage, and community spirit with the wider Edmonton community. Today, Cariwest is part of a global Carnival movement that brings people together through colour, rhythm, creativity, and celebration. The festival is powered by dedicated artists, performers, volunteers, community partners, and generous sponsors, and attracts more than 60,000 attendees over three days each year. The three-day celebration features the Friday Night Costume Extravaganza in Churchill Square, the signature Saturday parade along Jasper Avenue, and the Caribbean Village, with live entertainment, vendors, food, and family-friendly programming throughout Saturday and Sunday in Churchill Square.
