Coming to the Regina Fringe this July, Saving the Station turns the unlikely story of founding a community radio station into a personal tale of vision, betrayal, and what is left after the dream comes apart. What begins as a story about microphones, volunteers, town politics, and a 50-watt FM signal becomes a story about ownership, community, and what remains when the thing you built is no longer yours. Written and performed by Jim Priebe, the 45-minute show is a storytelling piece drawn from his experience founding a community radio station in Ontario. After retiring from a career in teaching, including five years as a principal in Nunavut, Priebe is trying something he has not previously done: bringing his own deeply personal story to the Fringe stage. Director Rachel E. Smith says, “I have found it inspiring to work with Jim as he returns to a story he has carried for years and brings it to the stage for the first time.”

Saving the Station premieres this July at the Regina Fringe Festival from July 8–12, then continues at the Winnipeg Fringe Festival from July 16–25.
