In advance of a large dance convention coming to Penticton in July, 2026, ten weekly 2-hr. lessons in Social Square Dancing start 6:30 pm Wed. Oct. 1 in West Kelowna, ending Dec. 3. The relatively new Social Square Dance program features a shorter learning period that gets you dancing and having fun sooner. It’s considered an ideal social recreation for singles, couples & families (children aged 12 & up). The square dance activity has evolved to welcome dancers in comfortable, dressy-casual clothing. The music includes pop to country and show tunes to golden oldies. Soft-soled shoes that won’t mar the floor are recommended because square dancing is done with a simple shuffle step. These lessons will be loads of fun, enjoyable exercise and an avenue toward great socialization and new friendships. The 10 weekly sessions are hosted by the City of West Kelowna Recreation Dept. in collaboration with the non-profit Westsyde Squares dance club. Pre-registration is required either through the direct internet link provided in this event post or you can register by phone at 778-797-8800 using a credit card or in person at the Recreation & Culture Office, 2760 Cameron Road, West Kelowna.
