The award winning roots/pop trio Shipyard Kitchen Party reunites the original cast and crew of their highly successful folk musical “Tom Thomson’s Wake”. For all of the fame achieved by the legendary artist after his mysterious death in Algonquin Park 1917, little is known about Tom Thomson’s personality and the forces that drove his art. “Tom Thomson’s Wake” follows three of Thomson’s friends – mentor A.Y. Jackson, love interest Winnie Trainor and Algonquin guide, Larry Dixon – as they piece together the last years of his life.
“Each character has a different view of who Tom was and what inspired him,” says show cocreator, Jason Murphy. “Part of the musical’s appeal is that the audience can choose one story over the other or take a little from each to create their own portrait of the artist.”
Returning to the cast is Craig Ashton as A.Y. Jackson, Dean Hollin as Larry Dixon, and Julie LeBlanc as Winnie Trainor. The show features an original musical score, composed and performed live by the Shipyard Kitchen Party.
“Along with the music and the talented actors, there is another amazing part of the show…” says co-creator John Eaton “..and that’s Thomson’s incredible artwork!” Each performance features high-definition images of some of Thomson’s most famous works licensed from the Art Gallery of Ontario!”
Once again, joining Murphy, Eaton and bandmate Sacha Law, will be the incredible musicianship of multi-instrumentalist Jason Redman and violin virtuoso Victoria Yeh.
