WILLARD, Ohio – Authorities are evacuating hundreds of homes in a small northern Ohio city after a railcar in a rail yard began leaking a liquid believed to be highly flammable and toxic.
Local responders and cleanup workers from transportation company CSX Corp. are at the scene of the spill in Willard, about 65 miles southwest of Cleveland. It wasn’t immediately clear what caused the leak of the liquid, which was believed to be styrene monomer. Styrene monomer is used to make a variety of plastic and rubber products.

Residents were told to evacuate the nearby area, encompassing an estimated 400 homes.
Police tell WEWS-TV in Cleveland that the motels in Willard quickly filled with people who were forced to evacuate overnight.
