Victim of fatal beating at Surrey house party identified

IHIT has identified a man killed in an after-hours illegal bar in Surrey over the weekend.

The victim has been identified as 44-year-old Ronald Richard Lomas. Lomas died at the basement suite near 91st Avenue and 147A Street in Surrey on Saturday.

IHIT says Lomas is known to them and has an extensive criminal record dating back to 1986.

Police were initially called due to a fight raging inside the home.

About 50 people were in the basement, which is being described as an “after hours party place.”

A second man who was assaulted at the party remains in a medically-induced coma.

Police say three to five men were seen fleeing the party after the men were beat.

They are asking anyone who was at the party, or may have more information, to come forward.

“The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has yet to identify and speak to all of the individuals that were inside the residence when the assault occurred. We know there are people who may have information that could assist in identifying the suspects involved. Those individuals should feel morally and ethically obligated to come forward and speak with police,” says Sgt. Jennifer Pound.

Neighbours have been complaining for months about loud parties at what’s been described as an afterhours bar.

This is not the first time police have been called to the house on 147A Avenue.

In June of 2012, a man was shot outside the residence, but he survived the attack.

The house is also well known to the city. The owner has been cited several times for bylaw infractions.

The death is Surrey’s 23rd homicide of the year. It comes just five days after the last murder and on the heels of the announcement by mayor Dianne Watts to launch a special task force to look into the city’s high homicide rate.
