Mayor Rob Ford approval rating in Etobicoke slipping: poll

TORONTO – Mayor Rob Ford’s approval rating in his home turf of Etobicoke seems to be eroding after he admitted smoking crack cocaine, according to poll results released on Thursday.

Telephone poll results by Forum Research indicates Rob Ford’s approval rating in Etobicoke is at 39 per cent, a dramatic drop of 10 points from data released on Nov. 4.

The mayor’s approval rating increased by 4 per cent in Scarborough from 55 per cent to 59 per cent, North York is at 47 per cent and Toronto/East York at 33 per cent.

When those surveyed were asked if Ford should resign, 64 per cent of Etobicoke voters said yes, a 12 per cent jump from numbers released a day after he made a public apology on his weekly radio show about “mistakes” he made in the past.

Meanwhile, 43 per cent of Scarborough residents who took part in the poll said he should resign, a four per cent drop from Nov. 4. North York was at 58 per cent followed by Toronto/East York at 73 per cent.

The poll was conducted by Forum Research with the results based on an interactive voice response telephone survey of 1,157 randomly selected Torontonians 18 years of age and older. The poll was conducted on Nov. 6, 2013. Results based on the total sample are considered accurate +/‐ 3%, 19 times out of 20.
