TORONTO — A nine-year-old girl has become a global superstar after her appearance on a TV talent show went viral.
Amira Willighagen stunned the judges and audience at Holland’s Got Talent last month with her performance of “O Mio Babbino Caro” from Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi.
The video of her audition has racked up more than 6.7 million views in just over a week.
“Are you really nine years old?” asked judge Chantal Janzen.
Willighagen — who, not surprisingly, advanced to the next stage of competition — revealed she taught herself how to sing opera using tutorials on YouTube.
The youngster performed the same piece that Jackie Evancho, then 10, sang when she auditioned for America’s Got Talent in 2010. Evancho finished the competition in second place.
