EDMONTON – Councillor forums in Wards 3 and 8 drew large crowds Wednesday evening.

In Ward 3, Dave Loken is going up against three others as he seeks re-election; and in Ward 8, current councillor Ben Henderson is one of five contenders.

The forums are giving voters the opportunity to make a more informed decision come election day, by allowing them to question the candidates not only about their vision for the area, but also the city. City officials say the mayoral candidate forum earlier this week drew roughly 700 people, and hundreds more watched online.

“People enjoy the opportunity to see the candidates, to see what they’re saying, see how they’re saying their answers, see what their responses are to the other candidates,” said Laura Kennedy with the City of Edmonton.

“This is just a wonderful way to get people out and get them to participate in this very important democratic process. Because you’re voting your leaders in for the next four years, and they make decisions that will impact you much further than four years down the road.”

The last city-sponsored councillor forum will be on October 9. You can see the complete schedule here.

If you can’t make it to them in person, you can watch the two-hour forums live online, as well as send in questions and have them answered by the candidates. If you miss it, the videos of the forum are posted on the City’s website within 72 hours.
