HALIFAX – Events on the campaign trail are a little lighter Monday as the three main party leaders prepare for their latest face-to-face meeting, this time during a televised forum.

NDP leader Darrell Dexter held an event in the Halifax area, promising to double the amount the government spends on a program to create apprenticeships.

Dexter says the program has already connected 550 young people with jobs in the province and if the NDP wins the election on Oct. 8, it would spend $1.5 million over three years to help match apprentices with jobs.

The televised leaders forum marks the fourth time during the 31-day campaign that the three party leaders have debated each other.
