Man rescued near the Capilano river

Rescue crews on the North Shore were forced to brave the nasty weather to save a man near the Capilano river.

Crews were called to the river just before noon yesterday after a man became stranded on a ledge below the hatchery.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

He was apparently cliff-diving in the inclement weather and got caught up in the heavy currents.

Dozens of firefighters and rescue volunteers performed a high-angle rescue to pull the man to safety.

Other than the cold, the man was alright.
