MONTREAL – The woman accused of throwing a tomato sandwich at a severely allergic Montreal man appeared in court on Monday.

Evelyn Samantha Donis was reluctant to speak to media, but she told the judge she simply forgot to show up at her last two court appearances.

The incident happened last September, when Alex Montreuil was at the Jewish General Hospital in Montreal for a CT scan, the day after the Quebec election-night shooting.

He alleged he was attacked with a tuna and tomato sandwich because he was speaking English.

He suffered a severe allergic reaction and she was charged with armed assault.

In court today, Donis spoke English and requested a French translator for the trial.

The case will be heard in January 2015.
