Legal drama series ‘The Divide’ to be shot in Toronto

TORONTO – A new TV series described as an exploration of morality in the American justice system will be made in Canada.

Ten one-hour episodes of The Divide will be shot in Toronto beginning in December, Global News has learned.

It is the first original scripted series on WE tv, a U.S. digital cable and satellite channel owned by AMC Networks and currently available in 83 million American homes.

The pilot was written by Richard LaGravenese (Behind the Candelabra) and David Manson (New Amsterdam) and directed by Tony Goldwyn (Dexter), who stars as President Grant in the series Scandal.

Casting for the legal drama has not been confirmed but the pilot starred Marin Ireland (Homeland, Boss), Paul Schneider (Parks and Recreation), Damon Gupton (Prime Suspect) and Joe Anderson (The Grey).

In a press release announcing the series, Goldwyn explained: “In The Divide we set out to explore the ethical grey zone entered by people driven by a sense of higher purpose and convinced of their own moral infallibility.”

The series is scheduled to debut on WE tv next year.

Toronto is home to a number of U.S. series, including Hannibal, Lucky 7, Suits, Reign, Nikita, Covert Affairs and Warehouse 13.
