News anchor drops 41 ‘Seinfeld’ references in sports report

TORONTO – We’re pretty sure this Louisville sports anchor would drape himself in velvet if it were socially acceptable after he managed to squeeze over 40 Seinfeld references into his nightly sports recap.

Obviously, Adam Lefkoe of WHAS11 News is a huge fan of the ’90s sitcom as he didn’t stop short in nailing 41 references from the iconic show in a five-minute sports segment.

From mentions of Bob Sacamano and J. Peterman to the more “bizarro” references of marble rye bread and a Cashmere sweater yada-yada-yada, Lefkoe didn’t miss a step in his report.

Even Jason Alexander, who played George Costanza in the hit series, made note of Lefkoe’s performance.

Sunday’s Seinfeldcast wasn’t the first time Lefkoe dropped Easter eggs in his script. Last week the broadcaster made reference to nearly 30 professional wrestling names during his segment.

Lefkoe cited the dying medium of the industry as one of the reasons he decided to tweak his reporting dialogue.

“The local sportscast is dying. The emergence of all-sports channels and catered fan websites has rendered this medium mundane,” he wrote on his blog.

In effort to attract an audience, Lefkoe is using social media to crowd-source ideas or themes for his nightly report.

“Crowd-sourcing is a wonderfully humbling process that can create a great bond with an audience…or potentially create one. Simply throw out a question on social media and farm the results. If no one responds, welp, just do your normal sportscast. If they reach out, embrace them. The return is a wonderful exchange of ideas,” he wrote.
