UBC grad arrested after posting video of record-breaking drive around Manhattan

A University of British Columbia graduate has reportedly been arrested in New York City after he allegedly posted a video of himself speeding  around Manhattan in just 24 minutes.

Canadian Christopher Adam Tang, 30, has been charged with reckless driving, reckless endangerment and four other traffic-related offences, according to the New York Police Department.

Police also seized his B.C.-licensed 2006 BMW Z4.

Police said the dashboard camera video, posted on YouTube on Aug. 28 by “AfroDuckProduction,” shows the car travelling along the 42.5-kilometre, while stopping for six lights.

Embedding has been disabled on the video, but it can be watched on YouTube. 

The video description states, “During the summer of 2013, a record was set for the fastest loop around Manhattan starting from 116th St. on the FDR heading downtown, up the Henry Hudson Highway, and back down to 116th St. in just 24 minutes.”

After reviewing the video, police arrested Tang at his New York City home Friday.

According to reports, Tang is a UBC graduate who majored in economics.
