Attacks in Iraq kill at least 41 people

BAGHDAD – Authorities say a spate of attacks across Iraq has killed at least 41 people, extending a wave of bloodshed roiling the country.

Police and hospital officials say the attacks Sunday included two evening bombings in the city of Baqouba, about 60 kilometres northeast of Baghdad. One blast in a residential area there killed seven and wounded 34, while another next to a wedding party convoy killed four and wounded 17.

Authorities say another bomb exploded inside a coffee shop in Baghdad’s Shaab neighbourhood, killing three and wounding 16 others.

Officials say another hit a group of youth playing football in Madain, killing four and wounding 13.

Hospital officials confirmed the casualty figures. All officials spoke on condition of anonymity as they were not authorized to release the information.
