Hulk Hogan welcomes WWE star Darren Young’s decision to come out

TORONTO — Pro wrestling icon Hulk Hogan said Friday he welcomed WWE star Darren Young’s decision to come out earlier this month.

“It’s great. He’s one of the greatest wrestlers in the business today,” Hogan said during an appearance on Global’s The Morning Show. “He looks awesome and the fact that he’s gay and he came out is really a great thing.”

Hogan said some of his best friends in the wrestling business, back in the day, were gay. “No one really talked about it,” he recalled. “It was between us guys and it was no big deal to us. It didn’t matter to us.”

Hogan, who recently turned 60, is in Toronto to appear at Fan Expo.

On The Morning Show, he talked about the loyalty of his fans (“These people have stuck with me through everything”) and his secret to staying in shape (“Working out with very light weights and eating good food”).

He also explained why he decided to embrace religion after a number of personal challenges — including a messy divorce and his son’s near-fatal car accident.

“I had a bunch of things happen and all of a sudden I kind of switched gears, changed my thinking,” said Hogan. ” I decided I wanted to be on that team.”
