Michael Rafferty back in court to ask public lawyer for appeal

TORONTO – The man found guilty of kidnapping and killing 8-year-old Tori Stafford will be back in court today asking for a public lawyer to appeal his murder conviction.

Michael Rafferty will appear via video in the Ontario Court of Appeal where he will make his bid for legal services funded by taxpayers.

Rafferty is appealing his conviction on grounds that the judge in his trial failed to properly instruct the jury and that the jury didn’t properly understand the required evidence to convict him of first-degree murder.
