Increased levels of fecal matter found at Sunset Beach in Vancouver

Vancouver Coastal Health is keeping an eye on the waters at Sunset Beach in Vancouver after a report showed increased levels of fecal matter.

There are no signs to keep off the beach this morning, but swimmers are being warned levels are higher than before.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

It is considered unsafe to swim when there are 200 coliform units detected in 100 ml of water, and last week’s report found 150 coliform units in the waters at Sunset. ‘Normal’ levels are 20 coliform units in 100 ml of water.

These waters do not usually have a high count of coliform.

Water levels will be closely monitored in the days and weeks to come.
