Calgary homeowner ignored by developer, despite lack of water pressure

CALGARY- A Calgary man has been living in his brand new home for over two months—but still has to bathe at his mother’s house.

Amar Bajwa and his wife moved in to his Saddleridge condo on May 16, and were upset to discover a serious lack of water pressure. The problem means they can’t run their dishwasher, shower or do laundry.

Despite the obvious issues, Bajwa said he wasn’t getting any help from the Carlisle Group, who built the condo.

“I wouldn’t get mad if somebody comes to me and says ‘we are taking care of you and we are here to fix the problem,’” he says. “But when you call and all you get is a voicemail and nobody gets back to you, then yes, that’s the situation now.”

It turns out the city investigated the building in May and found that a valve was closed on one of two service lines. Crews couldn’t open it without permission from the developer—but several calls to them went unanswered.

“In terms of delivering water and water pressure, the city’s responsibility ends at the property line,” explains Chris Huston, manager of the city’s Water Field Services. “The number the crew had when they went out, they called five times and there was no answer.”

The city eventually phoned the building manager, Asset West, saying they are ready to open the valve if a crew is standing by. After being contacted by Global News, someone from the Carlisle Group finally contacted Bajwa and is now working to fix the problem.
