Tornado reportedly touches down in New Brunswick, leaving wake of damage

 

OROMOCTO, N.B. – Environment Canada is investigating after reports of a tornado touching down Saturday in eastern New Brunswick.

Andy Firth, a meteorologist and spokesman for Environment Canada, says reports indicate the twister struck Saturday evening in the Grand Lake area, about 40 kilometres east of Fredericton.

Firth says reported damage includes destroyed buildings, vehicles and trees, as well as dump trucks and a barn blown the length of a football field.

There were no reports of injuries.

Environment Canada is sending a team out Monday to investigate the damage.

Firth says New Brunswick experiences an average of one or two tornadoes a year.
