Vic Toews is stepping down Tuesday as both public safety minister and MP for Provencher, Man., leaving another hole in Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s cabinet with a shuffle expected mid-week.
Among the other rumoured or confirmed to be part of Harper’s cabinet shuffle:
– Fisheries Minister Keith Ashfield, who has been diagnosed with cancer and asked to be taken out of cabinet but plans to stay on as an MP in 2015.
– Minister of State for Finance Ted Menzies, who won’t run again in 2015 and asked to be taken out of cabinet.
– Minister of State of Foreign Affairs Diane Ablonczy, who won’t run again in 2015.
– Intergovernmental Affairs Minister empty since Peter Penashue resigned and lost his seat.
– Sen. Marjory LeBreton, resigned as government leader in the Senate, and is retiring in 2015. The next Senate leader won’t be in cabinet.
– Environment Minister Peter Kent, who posted a message on Facebook last week, saying he would be fine with being moved out of cabinet.
There are now also three byelections to call: Provencher, Toronto Centre (after Liberal Bob Rae resigned last month), and Bourassa, given up by Liberal Denis Coderre who is running for Montreal mayor.
