Regina airport gets direct to Chicago

Residents of southern Saskatchewan will now be able to fly direct to Chicago.

The service by United Airlines started Thursday morning with 25 people boarding in Regina. It originated in Saskatoon before making a 7:45 a.m. stop in Regina.

Regina Airport Authority President and C.E.O Jim Hunter said the direct flight to Chicago is a tremendous addition to the airport.

“It’s pretty much the busiest or second busiest airport in the United States,” Hunter explained. “Great gate to the world for folks from southern Saskatchewan.”

United has 600 connecting flights from Chicago to cities all over the world.

In the last year the Regina airport has doubled its flights to Minneapolis, Minnesota to four, added two flights a day to Denver, Colorado and last month added non-stop flights to Ottawa.

“Regina and southern Saskatchewan are finally becoming recognized for where they stand in Canada,” Hunter said. “The fact that they’re leading economic growth and development in Canada, people are starting to realize this is the place to come.”
