SASKATOON – With one pre-season game in the books and training camp shifting from Saskatoon to Regina, the Saskatchewan Roughriders have trimmed their roster by eight players.
On Monday morning, the Riders announced the cuts of QB Levi Brown, LB Aaron Crawford, WR Phillip Livas, LB Anthony Heygood, RB Stephfon Green, DB Chip Vaughn, DL Kenny Rowe and University of Saskatchewan Huskie DL David Rybinski.
The team has also placed OL Patrick Neufeld and LB Mike McCullough on a nine-game injured list.
The Riders won their opening pre-season game on Friday night with a 31-24 victory over the Edmonton Eskimos on a last-minute interception return for a touchdown by former Saskatoon Hilltop Graig Newman.
The strong play of QB Tino Sunseri in this game brought him up on the depth chart, allowing the Riders to release Brown, who was a fourth-string pivot last year with the team.
Riders now have 78 players on the active roster.
The Green and White will play their second and final pre-season game on Thursday at Mosaic Stadium as they host the Calgary Stampeders.
The first regular season game for the Riders is on June 29 in Edmonton.
