LOUGH ERNE, Ireland – Prime Minister Stephen Harper has arrived in Northern Ireland for the G8 summit.

Harper and leaders of the world’s eight wealthiest nations are meeting in the lakeside Lough Erne resort for two days.

Topping the agenda will be a way to end the bloody civil war raging in Syria.

Harper singled out Russian President Vladimir Putin for being the lone G8 leader who supports the regime of Syrian President Bashar Assad.

Harper is scheduled to hold bilateral meetings today with the leaders of Italy, Japan and Germany.

Also up for discussion at the summit is British Prime Minister David Cameron’s proposal to combat tax evasion, which Harper says he agrees with in principle.
