Woman killed after bus rolls backwards while loading passengers in Vancouver

An elderly woman has died and three other people are injured after a charter bus rolled backwards while loading passengers in Vancouver Saturday morning.

The Premier Pacific Coach Lines bus was loading passengers in the area of 63rd Avenue and Ross Street at around 9 a.m. as part of a Khalsa Centre trip to Harrison Hot Springs.

Several women were boarding the bus when it suddenly started rolling backwards. Naranjan Dhesi, an 80-year-old woman, fell out of the bus and was pinned between the door and the pavement, police said.

The bus driver was not on board at the time of the incident.

Police said when emergency crews arrived the woman appeared to be only minorly injured, however, while she was being transported to the hospital for treatment she died in the ambulance.

Three other people suffered minor injuries.

The driver of the charter bus is cooperating with investigators and police are interviewing witnesses.
