HALIFAX – Police say a 58-year-old man was killed early today when he was loading a cargo jet at a facility near the Halifax Stanfield International Airport.

RCMP Sgt. Al LeBlanc says they received a call at 4:43 a.m. that the man became trapped by the platform of a hydraulic baggage loader at a business on Pratt and Whitney Drive.

He says they don’t know what caused the accident, but are investigating.

LeBlanc says the matter has been turned over to the medical examiner’s office and the Department of Labour.

A spokesman with the airport did not have any details on the incident.

Police were not releasing the man’s name.
