There’s a happy ending to the story of a couple in their 80s who had been reported missing in northwestern Alberta.
Neil and Pearl Holmes were found at approximately 6 p.m. Monday, in a remote area near Sunset House, Alberta; that’s about 40 minutes northeast of Valleyview, where they were last seen at home Sunday afternoon by their family.
Investigators were treating the Holmes’ disappearance as an emergency due to the couple’s age and poor health. Neil, who is 84, has dementia and had been lost while driving before.
A local resident who heard they were missing went for a drive with her husband and found the pair just east of Secondary Highway 747 on Township Road 694.
The Holmes had gotten lost and their van was stuck. Neil had attempted to walk for help when he was found near their vehicle. His 80 year-old wife was still inside.
Both were transported to the Valleyview Hospital by ambulance for treatment.
