TORONTO, Ontario – Mayor Rob Ford’s vision of a wading pool in the square in front of Toronto’s city hall has been sunk.

Ford put forward a motion Friday asking staff to investigate the costs of converting the already renovated reflecting pool at Nathan Phillips Square into a splash pad or wading pool.

Ford said a similar pool outside Edmonton’s city hall is very popular, but his motion failed on a 16-16 tie vote.

Councillors who opposed Ford’s motion said a revitalization project has already been designed for the square and didn’t agree with changing plans that have been years in the making.
