Winnipeg Police believe a four foot long ball python was thrown away by its owner, and found by a resident inside a dumpster.
The snake was seen moving around in the bin when a police K-9 unit arrived to contain it before city animal services captured it.
Leland Gordon with Animal Services says its “happy and healthy” but is disturbed someone would throw out their pet.
The snake can bite but would not constrict or choke someone.
“We’re just glad it stayed in the dumpster and didn’t get out and hurt someone,” said Gordon.
Police are searching for the owner and say a fine is possible if the owner is found to have abandoned the pet.
