Mourners gather to remember 5 crash victims

DELTA, B.C. – Hundreds of people gathered Friday for the funeral of three generations of one family killed in a horrific traffic crash in Surrey, B.C.

Five people died Sunday when the Toyota Corolla they were in was broadsided by a minivan that apparently ran a red light, hitting the Toyota with so much force it tore the car apart.

The crash killed Pawandeep Arjot, her young children, Annish and Jessica, her sister-in-law Neelam Dhingra, and her mother-in-law Vidya Sachdeva.

Mourners with tear-stained faces and bowed heads attended the memorial service at the Riverside Funeral Home in Delta, B.C.

One woman told reporters the father sat in a state of shock during the service, speechless, while another mourner said it was hard to comprehend such a loss.

Police have said drugs and alcohol have been ruled out in the crash and it’s not yet known if charges will be laid against the driver of the minivan, who survived the crash and is still in hospital. (CKNW,News1130)
