Public warned about man impersonating police officer, who pulled two people over

CALGARY- The public is being warned about a man who’s believed to be posing as a police officer, following two suspicious incidents in southwest Calgary.

Around 2:30 a.m. on Wednesday, a woman was driving along Palliser Drive when she noticed she was being followed by a silver sedan. The vehicle activated red and blue lights on the dashboard to pull her over.

The woman waited for a police officer to approach her, but instead, a driver got out and shone a flashlight in her eyes. She quickly drove away and called 911, but the driver followed her.

She then headed to a nearby police station, but when she got to the parking lot of the Brae Centre Community station, the silver sedan drove off.

A short time later, a man was travelling along Southland Drive when a silver sedan activated its red and blue lights. The driver pulled over, but the sedan drove off.

Police were unable to locate the vehicle, and are now asking for the public’s help.

The driver is described as white, about 5’7” tall and wearing green sweatpants. Anyone with information is asked to call police.

Officials are reminding the public that the majority of traffic stops are conducted in marked vehicles, or by officers dressed in full uniforms. Red and blue lights are on the top of marked cruisers, and inside the grill or interior of unmarked cars.

If a driver is unsure if a real police officer pulled them over, call 911. Police are required to carry identification and must produce it if asked. They will also identify themselves as police officers when making a traffic stop.
