TORONTO – Canada’s biggest hotel is getting a new name this summer.
The Delta Chelsea on Gerrard Street just west of Yonge Street will be rebranded as the Eaton Chelsea on July 1.
It will be the first hotel with the Eaton name in Canada. There are currently Eaton Hotels in Hong Kong, Shanghai and New Delhi.
Eaton Hotels is part of Hong Kong-based Langham Hospitality Group, which operates Langham Hotels in the U.K., U.S., Asia and Australia.
The company said it will spend millions to refurbish the Toronto hotel’s exterior, lobby area and restaurants.
The hotel, which has 1,590 rooms, has long been owned by Langham parent company Great Eagle Holdings but was managed by Delta Hotel and Resorts, a Toronto-based company owned by the British Columbia Investment Management Corporation.
In December, Delta announced plans to open a 45-storey flagship hotel with 566 rooms at Lower Simcoe Street and Bremner Boulevard in late 2014.
