Oil truck rolls on Buffalo Pound causeway closing Highway 2

REGINA – Officials from the Ministry of Environment and Ministry of Highways remain at the scene of an overturned oil tanker on Highway #2 at the Buffalo Pound causeway.

An undetermined amount of oil has leaked from the tanker and the highway just north of Moose Jaw has been closed since just after midnight.

The Buffalo Pound water treatment plant is just 20 kilometres from where the oil tanker turned over but the superintendent for the faciltiy tells Global News there is no immediate danger to the water supply.

Ministry of Environment crews are working to clean up the accident and will be sending out updates as events unfold.

The Ministry of Highways says conditions are extremely icy in the area and accessing the site is slow going.

Traffic remains blocked in both directions and the highway will stay closed until later today.
