SASKATOON – Residents of Stanley Mission began walking from Prince Albert to Saskatoon as part of their trek to Ottawa in support of Idle No More.

Organizer Bruce McKenzie says the walk is part of an effort to convince the federal government to rescind Bill C-45 until it has consulted with native leaders – one of the key demands of the Idle No More movement.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

The plan is to arrive in Ottawa in time for National Aboriginal Day on June 21st.

The walkers hope support will build as they get closer to larger cities.

Rallies are planned for every major centre they pass through.
