Toronto couple killed in Florida by asphyxiation; police seek multiple suspects

TORONTO – CrimeStoppers announced a $51,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest in the mysterious murder of Toronto couple David Pichosky and Rochelle Wise while they were in Florida.

Wise and Pichosky were found dead in their Hallandale Beach, Fla. home on January 10.

A medical examiner has ruled that they both died of asphyxiation.

Police have not been able to identify a motive but do know that “multiple culprits” were involved in the murder, and remain confident that the case will be solved.

“Those perpetrators and those people that are responsible for this – their freedom is short-lived,” Hallandale Police Chief Dwayne Flournoy said. “I’m confident that we will be able to bring them to justice and hold them accountable.”

Police said that as of 8 a.m. on January 9, the couple were still alive, having chatted via FaceTime with a family member.

Police earlier released security camera footage from a neighbour’s home that showed an unidentified woman walking around the side of the house later on January 9.

“It angers me that someone came into this home and killed these two people who, [from] what we’ve been able to identify, they have no enemies. They are nice people,” Flourney said. “They were enjoying their retirement. They were enjoying their new marriage.”

Police said Wise and Pichosky spent most of their time in Florida together and were supposed to meet a friend for lunch on the day they were found dead.

The victims’ family and friends appealed to the public during a press conference in Florida on Wednesday for anyone to come forward with information.

“We’re just looking for any little bit of information. Anything that anyone might know or have seen, even things that might be out of place,” Wise’s son, Jamie Wise said. “It could help, help find that people that did this to my mom and to Donny.”

Wise and Pichosky were from Toronto, where Wise was a popular former day camp director and educator.

“She was my friend. I didn’t have a sister. She was as close to a sister as I would ever get,” Wise’s friend Pearl Gladman said.

Hallandale Police released new footage Wednesday of the couple at a Walmart in Hallandale Beach on January 8.
