WINNIPEG – Hudson the polar bear has arrived in Winnipeg.
The 15-month-old bear arrived at Richardson International Airport at about 2 a.m. Tuesday.
“Hudson is in good spirits after making the trip from Toronto,” Tim Sinclair-Smith, director of zoological operations at Assiniboine Park Zoo, said in a news release. “All indications are that it will be a smooth transition as he adapts to his new surroundings.”
Hudson, who was born at the Toronto Zoo and lived there until now, will temporarily live at the International Polar Bear Conservation Centre at the Winnipeg zoo.
He will live in the zoo’s Journey to Churchill exhibit after it opens in 2014.
Hudson isn’t available for viewing yet, because zoo staff want to give him time to adapt to his new home. No date has been set for the public’s first look at Hudson.
He will be the first polar bear to live at the zoo since Debby died in November 2008.
